Call for Partner Papers
for a seminar on
Women in Science and gender-responsive STEAM education
UNESCO-IICBA, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
December 17, 2018

Organized jointly by Next Einstein Forum (NEF) ambassadors, Ethiopian Young Academy of Science (EtYAS) and UNESCO International Institute for Capacity-Building in Africa (UNESCO- IICBA), the seminar kicks off the Africa Science Week for Ethiopia, running through December 17–20. Beside other important aspects, the workshop will focus on the special contribution of teachers in supporting and inspiring girls to pursue careers in various scientific fields. Hereby, we would like to extend our warmest invitation to you to participate in the seminar titled “Women in Science and gender-responsive STEAM education”, a platform for presentation of research papers as well as project reflections or proposals. You are welcome to present for up to 30 minutes on a wide range of topics, including, but not exclusive to:

  • Women in science: promotion and the importance of role models
  • Sparking girls’ early interest in science through gender-responsive pedagogy
  • Role of teachers: practical presentation of gender-responsive course designs
  • Sharing experience in gender-sensitive curriculum and policy development


If you wish to present a paper, you are kindly requested to confirm your interest along with a proposed title of your presentation by November 9, 2018, and then submit a brief abstract of your paper with policy recommendations, following the outline we will provide in due time. By taking part in this seminar, you will be kindly invited to a cocktail reception, taking place on the same day, December 17, 2018, and featuring speeches with personal experiences of three  prominent Ethiopian women scientists, as selected by the members of EtYAS.
